History
Adams Jewelers, run by Rose Adams was founded by her father-in-law,
Maurice L. Adams. Rose has been running the business since the death of
her husband George Adams in 1979. There is great history behind how Adams
Jewelers started and has developed.
"My father-in-law, Maurice Adams, began his career
in the jewelry business at the early age of fourteen. His widowed mother
informed him of a jeweler, Frank Bayer, who was looking for an
apprentice. Maurice, knowing this was the only job available, accepted
the offer. He started at the very bottom sweeping the floors, working
his way slowly up the ladder. He continued to work for Bayer for the
next seventeen years. After WWII, Maurice began repairing and creating
jewelry for other jewelers in his home for several years. He set up a
display case in the living room of his home and began to develop an
elite reputation in the jewelry industry. At this point, he began to
drift into the retail end of the business. As always, Maurice took
extreme pride in his product. Being a small town jeweler was so much
more involved than being employed as a jeweler in New York City. Instead
of only having to know how to polish or set diamonds, my father-in-law
had to be a "Complete Jeweler". In 1971, my husband George Adams took
over the business, after returning from Vietnam. We managed the store
together until his death in 1979. Since then, I have been the sole owner
and carry the Adams name proudly. As my father-in-law stated, 'Change is the by-word of the jewelry industry.'
Adams Jewelers has always adapted and prevailed throughout change. Our
preservation has enabled us to become a leader in the industry for over
60 years." --------Rose
